Verification

Verification Policy

Verification is a statement about company identity and registration information only — not a credit rating, an inspection, an audit, or a recommendation to transact.

Overview

Verification is an independent identity and registration review offered by Steel.Directory for authorised representatives of listed companies. Its purpose is to help visitors distinguish profiles that Steel.Directory has reviewed from profiles that remain compiled but unverified.

Every public listing starts as unverified. Verification is completed only when an authorised representative of the company claims the profile, submits the required information and documents, and Steel.Directory approves the submission after review.

Verification is a statement about company identity and business registration information. It is not a credit rating, an inspection, an audit, a quality certification, or a recommendation to transact with the company.

Scope of verification

When reviewing a verification request, Steel.Directory reviews the company's legal name, registration number, registration or licence document, registered address, official website and the identity of the authorised representative submitting the claim.

We may request clarification or supplementary evidence where the submitted information is unclear, incomplete or inconsistent. Verification is granted only when the reviewed identity and registration information can be substantiated.

Verification applies to the profile as a whole. It does not extend to individual products, prices, specifications, stock availability, certifications issued by other bodies, or the commercial conduct of the company.

What verification is not

Verification does not guarantee product quality, creditworthiness, financial standing, delivery performance, payment behaviour, contractual conduct, or the outcome of any transaction. It is not a credit rating, an inspection, an audit or a certification of goods.

A verified badge indicates that Steel.Directory reviewed specified identity and registration information at a point in time. It does not represent ongoing monitoring of the company, real-time confirmation of its status, or any assurance about its current or future behaviour.

Visitors should always perform their own due diligence — including commercial, financial and legal checks — before entering into any transaction with any company listed in the directory, whether verified or not.

The claim and verify process

An authorised representative opens the company listing and selects the claim and verify option, creates or logs in to a Steel.Directory account, and submits the company information and documents described in the scope above.

Steel.Directory reviews the submission, may request clarification, and on approval activates verification for the profile. The company then receives a verified badge, a verification ID, a verification date, an expiry date and a digital verification certificate with a QR code linking to the public verified profile.

Verification requires an active membership. Where membership expires, verification is maintained through renewal; where renewal does not occur, the badge is removed until the profile is renewed and reverified.

Badge display

A verified badge is displayed only after verification has been completed. Unverified listings never display a badge, a verification ID or a certificate, and never imply approval.

Verified profiles display the verification ID, verification date, expiry date and verification level, and can issue a downloadable certificate with a QR code linking to the public verified profile. The badge must not be reproduced, altered or used outside the verified profile without permission.

Validity and renewal

Verification is valid for one year from the verification date and is maintained through an active membership. The expiry date is shown on the verified profile.

Before expiry, Steel.Directory sends a renewal reminder to the authorised representative. If renewal is completed in time, verification continues. If verification expires, the badge is removed and the profile returns to an unverified state until verification is completed again.

Suspension and revocation

Verification may be suspended or revoked where submitted information is found to be inaccurate, documents cannot be substantiated, the representative is not authorised, the company has ceased to operate, or continued verification would be misleading.

Where verification is suspended, the badge is temporarily hidden pending review. Where verification is revoked, the badge, verification ID and certificate are removed and the profile returns to an unverified state. Suspension or revocation does not prevent a company from reapplying once the issue is resolved.

Disputes

Any company or third party may dispute a listing or a verification decision by contacting Steel.Directory with supporting information. We will review the dispute and may adjust, suspend or remove the listing or verification as appropriate.

Steel.Directory reserves the right to decline or remove verification where information cannot be substantiated or where continued verification would be inconsistent with the purpose of this policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Verification Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by revising the date on this page. Verification decisions remain governed by the policy in effect at the time of the decision.
